5 (4)	Vertex rough-scaled. Forewing dark silvery grey; apical fringe forewing with four dark bars, two costal and two terminal *L. lotella*
	4.5-5.8mm. May, sometimes also in August (in Britain). Forewing with conspicuous purplish black apical spot.
-	Vertex smooth-scaled. Forewing bronzy grey; apical fringe only with two dark costal bars *L. lustratella*
	3.8-5.0mm. July and August. Forewing without large blackish apical spot.

6 (3)	Vertex rough-haired. Forewing with dark inner margin of first costal mark extended to tornus *L. sinuella*
	6.0-8.0mm. Late April to late August
